When you look back at your upbringing, which of these is a familiar theme?

My Early Story

I grew up with an alcoholic or addicted parent — leaving me to walk on eggshells and never feel truly safe.

I experienced emotional neglect or unavailability — forcing me to become self-sufficient far too young, and leaving me starved for love.

Boundaries were missing or ignored in my home — so now I struggle to know where I end and others begin.

My childhood was chaotic, unpredictable, or frightening — teaching me to live in survival mode and expect instability.

I learned to manage others’ emotions to keep the peace — which turned me into a caretaker, always responsible for everyone but myself.

None of the above applies to me.

Trauma That Shaped You

I’ve experienced sexual trauma or assault — and I still carry shame, hyper-vigilance, or a fear of intimacy.

I’ve been in emotionally abusive or narcissistic relationships — leaving me doubting my own reality and struggling to trust.

My heart and my trust has been broken consistently — making it hard to fully let anyone in.

I learned to stay small or be invisible to survive — and now I silence myself even when I long to be heard.

I sense something is broken inside, but I’m not sure what — I just know I don’t feel whole.

Obsession or heartbreak over a lost love — I can’t seem to let go or move forward, and it’s making my life feel unmanageable.

Exhaustion, hopelessness, or numbness — like life is just happening to me and I’ve lost my spark.

Anger at myself for staying stuck — for repeating the same patterns again and again, even when I know better.

Rage toward another person — I can’t move past the betrayal, and holding onto it is making me sick.

A longing for a love that may not exist — I keep myself in perpetual “waiting for the one” mode, which leaves me lonely, isolated, and putting my life on hold.

Attachment Style

I become too attached too quickly — which often sabotages and drives people away.

When someone pulls away, I panic — I chase, over-text, over-give, and feel desperate.

I sense people’s emotions so strongly — I lose myself in trying to fix or soothe them.

I give far more than I receive — and end up feeling resentful, empty, and unseen.

I overanalyze every word, every silence — which leaves me drained, insecure, and doubting myself.

I push people away before they can get close — sabotaging the very love and connection I deeply desire.

I shut down or go numb when things get too intense — creating distance even though part of me longs for closeness.

I'm securely attached and my relationships reflect that.

Be honest — how willing are you to feel uncomfortable for the sake of healing?

Your Threshold for Change

I am done. I cannot live this cycle another day.

I want change, but I’m afraid of what will surface.

I keep telling myself “later” or “when I can afford it” — but deep down I know that just means never.

I’ll try, but only if it doesn’t push me too far out of my comfort zone.
